Hello, and welcome to my blog! 

I’m Sofia, an avid diver and a budget-conscious traveler working to merge my passion for the ocean with my passion for building deeper connections to ourselves, each other, and the world around us. 

Okay, I know you’re probably wondering - how can I be a budget-conscious traveler who prioritizes an expensive hobby like scuba diving? Well, one, because I work as a dive professional, and two, because when I travel to destinations known for diving, I don’t center my entire experience around the diving. Instead, diving serves as the catalyst of a much richer experience rather than the sole purpose of my trip. 

Many divers often plan a full-on dive vacation where they dive, eat, sleep, repeat - which I understand for those die-hard divers who can only take short vacations, and I absolutely love to do this from time to time. But I prefer to “slow travel.” I like to settle into coastal communities for a few weeks or months (or years) so that I can participate in a life where local culture merges with an international arrangement of ocean-lovers. Having ample time somewhere gives me the chance to breakdown preconceived notions of the world, to contemplate the fickle dynamic between the ocean and humanity, and to connect with others who want to get out of their own little bubbles.

And so, the reflections I share here blend narratives of my adventures with deeper insights about ourselves and the world, encouraging you to dig a little deeper into your travels.
